Canadian Travel Trends

With the increase cost of travel insurance, the fluctuation in the value of the Canadian dollar and the uncertainty of travel safety as it pertains to terrorist threats and attacks in destinations outside Canada, more and more Canadians are now expected to travel closer to home.

The interest among Canadians for seeing more of Canada has probably never been stronger, according to the Canadian Tourism Commission(CTC) who state in their 2006/2007 Strategic Business Plan that 49.4% of Canadians now consider substituting Canada for another travel destination during 2008. Nearly 40% of business travellers took a leisure component to business trips because of a dwindling amount of designated leisure time.
